JBS Biodiesel begins building a new plant in the state of Santa Catarina

Located in the city of Mafra, the plant will have capacity to produce c.1 million liters of biodiesel per day. As soon as construction is finished, the operation is expected to generate 100 direct and 300 indirect jobs, contributing to  economic activity in the region.

On June 8th, JBS started construction of its new biodiesel plant, in the city of Mafra, Santa Catarina. The plant will be operated by JBS Biodiesel, a division of JBS Novos Negócios, with R$ 180 million investment from Seara Alimentos.

The plant will have a total area of 76,000 square meters, with a production capacity of nearly 1 million liters of biodiesel per day. Around 400 jobs will be generated by construction. As soon as the construction work phase is concluded, which is expected June 2021, the operation is expected to generate 100 direct and 300 indirect jobs, contributing the economic activity in the region.

“In line with the growth of the biofuel industry in Brazil, we are starting to build this facility which will more than double our current biodiesel production capacity. The plant will help meet the demand for the arrival of B13, and comply with the expansion of the regulatory framework, which may reach 15% by 2023,” explains Alexandre Pereira, director of JBS Biodiesel.

The city of Mafra is located in a strategic region for the national biofuel industry. In addition to efficient logistics for shipping and unloading through railways and highways, it is 120 km away from Araucária (PR), where the President Getúlio Vargas (Repar) Refinery, one of the main diesel mixing and distribution plants in Brazil, is located.
